Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before starting your renovation project with Renova Builders.
Timeline & Process
How long does a typical home renovation take?
Most kitchen or bathroom remodels take 4–8 weeks. Full home renovations or additions can range from 3–6 months depending on scope, permitting, and material lead times. We provide a detailed project timeline during your free consultation.
What does the renovation process look like from start to finish?
Our process: Free Consultation → Design & Planning → Permit Approval → Demolition → Build → Final Inspection → Walkthrough. You have a dedicated project manager from day one.
Will I be able to stay in my home during the renovation?
In most cases, yes. We contain work areas and clean up daily. For full gut renovations or major structural work, some clients prefer to vacate for 2–4 weeks during the most intensive phases.
How do you handle unexpected delays or issues?
We proactively communicate any changes via your project manager. Change orders are always discussed and approved by you before any additional work proceeds — no surprise charges.
Costs & Pricing
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in the Bay Area?
Kitchen remodels in the Bay Area typically range from $25,000–$80,000+ depending on size, materials, and layout changes. A mid-range kitchen runs $35,000–$55,000. We provide a detailed written estimate after your consultation.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?
Yes — we typically require a deposit of 10–20% to secure your project start date and order materials. The payment schedule is clearly outlined in your contract before any work begins.
What’s included in your estimate?
Our estimates cover labor, materials, subcontractors, permits, and project management. We break out each line item so you see exactly where your money goes — no vague lump sums.
Can I supply my own materials to save money?
Yes. Many clients source their own tile, fixtures, or appliances. We’ll adjust the estimate accordingly and advise on specs so what you choose is compatible with the build plan.
Permits & Licensing
Are you licensed and insured in California?
Yes. Renova Builders is fully licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and carries general liability insurance and workers’ compensation. We’re happy to provide documentation before signing any contract.
Do you handle permits, or is that my responsibility?
We handle all permitting. We prepare and submit permit applications, coordinate inspections, and ensure your project passes final sign-off — you don’t need to deal with the city.
What projects require a permit in the Bay Area?
- Structural changes (removing or adding walls)
- Electrical panel upgrades or new circuits
- Plumbing rough-in or relocation
- ADU construction
- Room additions
Cosmetic work like painting, flooring, or cabinet refacing typically does not require a permit.
